Dead Calm - The Novel 1963

The screenplay for the movie Dead Calm was based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Charles Williams. In DEAD CALM Charles Williams turns again to the two characters who so delighted fans in Aground. The Ingrams, John & Rae, alone on their honeymoon yacht in mid-Pacific, are suddenly and incongruously confronted with a tragedy at sea: another ship, sinking, its lone passenger a handsome young man who has had to bury his wife 7 another couple, dead from food poising. This is the apparent outline, the start of a series of events so startling the reader is instantly riveted and held to the end. The outcome occurs in a scene whose intensity will not soon be equaled.
